Evita se Perron shop

evita shopThe Perron Shop.

The Perron shop features a variety of craft items – including straw bags, handmade soaps, wooden toys, ceramics, scarves and more – as well as locally made food items such as olive oil and Darling Sweet toffees.

The shop’s bookstall is the only place in the world where you will find all the books by Pieter Dirk Uys. They are autographed and include his personal memoirs, Elections & Erections and Between The Devil and The Deep, and his novels, Panorama and Trekking To Teema, as well has his faux biography of the legendary Evita Bezuidenhout, A Part Hate A Part Love; his ‘autobiography’ of her scandalous sister, Bambi Kellermann, Never Too Naked; and the texts of his most recent plays, African Times, Macbeki and The Merry Wives of Zuma.

Autographed copies of Evita Bezuidenhout’s two cookbooks – Evita’s Kossie Sikelela and Evita’s Bossie Sikelela — are also available at the bookstall, as is The Essential Evita Bezuidenhout, which was part of a series that included books about Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.

The bookstall also features DVDs of several Pieter Dirk Uys productions, most featuring Evita Bezuidenhout together with other members of the satirical cluster: Adapt or Dye, Farce About Uys, Dekaffirnated, The Great Comedy Trek, Skating On Thin Uys and The End Is Naai. Julian Shaw’s award winning documentary, Darling! The Pieter-Dirk Uys Story, is also available.

The Gallery

The A en C also includes an exhibition of the portraits of Evita Bezuidenhout painted in the style of the great masters — from Picasso, through Rembrandt, Warhol, Klimt, da Vinci to Trechikoff – by Darling artist Nina van der Westhuizen.

Artwork by students of The Darling Trust’s Elsie Balt Art School are also exhibited in the A en C gallery.  These works are for sale, with the proceeds going to The Darling Trust.

MuseumThe Museum/Nauseum

This unique Museum/Nauseum comprises a collection of letters, pictures, portraits, signs, faxes, emails and emblems reflecting the history of a South Africa that has thankfully been left behind. And yet, as Evita says: “Let us remember where we come from so we can celebrate where we are going.” Pieter Dirk Uys shares the correspondence he as a small boy had with Dr and Mrs Verwoerd and President CR Swart, as well as his friendships with Nelson Mandela, Winnie Mandela, Desmond Tutu and Pik Botha. It is unique experience firmly with its tongue in your cheek.

Finally, the A en C also includes a boekie hoekie for second hand books and a cluster of elegant Art Deco chairs and settees on which to sit whilst watching the Evita films and television delights offered in our small viewing lounge.
